History
Hi, my name is Emma and I am crazy about cavies!!
I was born in the pretty village of Lenham on the North Downs in Kent, where most of my family still live. I am currently living ten minutes down the road in Ashford. I am 27 years old, and work full time as the company acountant to the International branch of one of the worlds largest avocado growers.
I have been crazy about guinea-pigs since before i can remember, thanks to my mother who has bred them since she was a child. Between us we currently own nearly 50 guinea-pigs of varying breeds and cross-breeds, and between us we always have babies available or on the way, so if you dont see anything on this site that takes your fancy email me as she may have something for you.
I purchased my first guinea-pig as a gift to my ex-husband. She was a gorgeous cream dutch, and the first words he muttered to her were 'hello little Missy - so what are we going to call you then?'. We struggled for days to come up with a name, but those first words stuck and she was known throughout her life as Missy!
The following summer I purchased a second sow - an aby cross named Rosie (due to her rosettes). She was closely followed by a roan-aby boar named Timmy. My breeding programme, as little as it was back then, was very important to me and when I realised Missy was becoming too old to breed anymore I was determined to keep the line going. So I kept the friendliest sow from her final litter, and named her Scruffy - as her rosettes were very poorly marked. These days Scruffy is almost ready for retirement, but in her time she has produced some of the most gorgeous babies I have had - including those on my home page.
From these four pigs my programme expanded hugely and, until my recent seperation, I was breeding Black American Cresteds, Rexes, Coronets, Peruvians, Abys, Tri's and cross-breed 'mongrels'. Unfortunately, due to a divorce which left me living in a caravan on a camp-site for nearly seven months I had to sell almost all of my stock and only kept a dozen pigs who went to live with my mum until I moved into my new home.
Over the winter I purchased about 30 guinea-pigs from an ex-breeder in Folkestone, and over the next couple of months these will be put into my breeding programme and hopefully by the end of this summer I will be back to my former glory and have all my cages occupied again!!
